Vizcaya wants capitol to model solid waste management

Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya—The provincial government is bent on transforming the provincial capitol as a model for the strict implementation of the Solid Waste Management Program.

Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Tito Tanguilig said an executive order has been signed by Governor Carlos Padilla to enhance the implementation and enforcement of the program within the capitol.

“We are going to strictly enforce the provisions of the SWMP as we will aim to make our provincial capitol as a role model on SWMP implementation,” he said in a press conference.

Tanguilig said his office has met with the administrative officers of local and national government agencies to discuss the new executive order, including the vendors within the capitol.

They have also proposed that agencies who are violators of the SWMP will be reminded during the flag raising ceremonies on their role to improve their compliance with the program or face the penalties that will be imposed under it.

Vendors who will be found violators of the SWMP will be banned from doing business within the capitol, Tanguilig said.

“They are free to do their trade within the provincial capitol, so they have also to abide and comply with the waste segregation system under the SWMP,” he said.

Tanguilig also bared that they will conduct a communication campaign for visitors within the capitol to reduce indiscriminate dumping and throwing of wastes.

“This is part of our campaign to maintain cleanliness within the provincial capitol which is also known as Luneta of the North. We have a responsibility to maintain its cleanliness and beauty,” he said.

Tanguilig also expressed optimism that other local government units will follow the SWMP once it is rolled out, as they have partnered with the Nueva Vizcaya Provincial Employees Association for the program within the capitol.
