After just a little less than seven months at the helm, Ricky Dandan resigned as the head coach of the Columbian Dyip in the Philippine Basketball Association.
Following a surprising four-win campaign in the ongoing Commissioner’s Cup, it seemed like the Dyip is finally headed to a positive direction.
That was until Dandan’s surprise resignation yesterday.
With Columbian already out of the race for a berth in the quarterfinals, the rookie head coach decided that it was time to move forward, leaving the Dyip without a head mentor at the moment.
Dandan took charge and got his break prior to the new year when then head coach Chris Gavina also left the team.
The improvements of the team this conference still weren’t enough to convince Dandan to stay and continue Columbian’s progress.
After his two conference stint, Dandan released his statement regarding his departure.
“This is to officially announce my resignation as Head Coach of the Columbian Dyip in the PBA,” said Dandan. “I have arrived at this decision after much thought and consideration.”
Dandan then cited the reason why he tendered his resignation.
“Since January, I have focused all of my efforts full time as Head Coach of Columbian and when time permitted, I attended practices of the UP Men’s Basketball Team. My personal decision now is to concentrate all of my attention, effort and energy full time on helping coach Bo Perasol and the UP Fighting Maroons in our quest for the Final Four this forthcoming UAAP season.”
Still, he expressed his gratefulness for the opportunity he got at Columbian.
“I therefore convey my sincere gratitude and appreciation to Columbian Dyip for having had confidence in me as a coach and a person.”
