Grid operator National Grid Corp. of the Philippines on Thursday expressed firm commitment to help improve internet speed and exploit its partnership with the Department of Information and Communications Technology to roll out the country’s national broadband program.
“We welcome this opportunity to take part in the National Broadband Program of the government to address the longstanding issue of internet connection quality in the Philippines,” NGCP said in a statement.
NGCP, which manages the country’s transmission assets through its concession agreement with the government, said it would closely work with the government to improve internet speed and access.
“We are eager to experience not only the improvement of internet speed but also free Wi-Fi access in public areas,” it said.
NGCP allowed the free use of the dark fiber in the transmission lines to the government. “We hope for the successful implementation of the National Broadband Program in the next months,” the company said.
