Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya—At least 175 poor patients from various hospitals in the province were given free blood supply through the Philippine Red Cross’ Blood Samaritan Program.
Randy Blanco, PRC administrator, said the number of assisted patients covered the month of January to April this year.
“With this assistance, we released at least 288 units of blood bags worth more than P500,000,” he said.
Blanco also thanked Nueva Vizcaya Governor Carlos Padilla for providing financial assistance for the implementation of the BSP.
The BSP encourages regular blood donation through Novo Vizcayanos from all walks of life.
This is being advocated by the PRC in various schools, local government units, national government agencies and Civil Society Organizations.
“We seek to continue this collaboration to alleviate human suffering and help save lives especially for the vulnerable and poor sectors,” Blanco said.
To sustain the BSP, the PRC, Department of Health, the provincial government, and allied organizations also conduct a yearly Blood Summit to institutionalize the annual blood donation in the province that will sustain the availability of blood always.
