Ravena faces possible suspension

Sanctions await basketball star Kiefer Ravena for reportedly failing a random drug test.

That’s after he was said to have tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug after Team Pilipinas played in Melbourne and lost to the Boomers, 84-68, last February 22.

Suspension from playing for Gilas in international competitions looms as the likeliest sanction that could be handed down by SBP officials.

Though, no official word yet on how Ravena, who plays for the NLEX Road Warriors in the Philippine Basketball Association, will be penalized.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas officials appealed for another test before the Fiba medical board.

Ravena, 24, was one of the silver linings for Gilas in that loss, scoring six points to go with two assists and two rebounds in 17 minutes of play.

Unconfirmed reports said the second test also came out positive.

All members of the Gilas Pilipinas pool for the coming FIBA qualifiers are now being required to undergo drug-testing.

And this is on orders coming from Fiba.

The former Ateneo King Eagle is in the middle of an impressive rookie season after being made the No. 2 pick in the last PBA draft by NLEX.

Ravena had a great collegiate stint, which included two UAAP championships with Ateneo and MVP awards in high school and college.
