LUBAO, Pampanga—Sports has always been helpful in developing competitiveness and camaraderie–fundamental elements in nation-building.
This was stressed by President Duterte in his message to guests and participants during the opening of the 17th World University Golf Championships at the Pradera Verde Golf and Country Club here Tuesday.
“I laud the FESSAP for organizing the 17th WUGC, which aims to bring together talented athletes from around the world to demonstrate and hone their skills in golf,” said President Duterte in his message to officials and players from the 13 participating countries in the four-day event hosted by the FESSAP (Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines).
“I am certain that this gathering will foster competitiveness among our young golfers as it promotes competence, solidarity and patriotism. Let our players nurture relationships with their peers and opponents so that they may embody the values of inclusion, discipline and perseverance,” added President Duterte.
Commissioner Ramon Fernandez of the Philippine Sports Commission represented President Duterte during the colorful opening ceremony.
With Fernandez are Pampanga Gov. Lilia Pineda, Lubao Mayor Mylyn Pineda-Cayabyab, FESSAP honorary president David Ong, FESSAP president Baldomero Estenzo, philanthropist Bong Pineda, delegation head Angel Ngu and WYGC organizing committee head and Pradera Verde manager Mike Singgaran.
