The bill proposes to declare a National Youth Day in solidarity with the observance of International Youth Day.

The proposed “National Youth Day Act” mandates the National Youth Commission, in coordination with the Department of Education, Commission on Higher Education, and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, to prepare and implement the annual program of activities to ensure meaningful observance of National Youth Day every year.

The bill also provides that youth organizations and youth-serving groups in the country shall support the NYC’s efforts in promoting and facilitating related activities in private and public educational institutions nationwide.

Elago said in her bill all schools, colleges, and universities were also enjoined to launch activities such as leadership trainings, youth empowerment workshops, basic mass integration, solidarity summits, and other similar events in celebration of National Youth Day.

“Moreover, the measure urges respective administrations of academic institutions to extend their full support to activities conducted by their students,” she said.

The NYC shall promulgate  corresponding rules and regulations to implement the measure once enacted.
