A one-month drug rehabilitation program is underway in the Northern Police District launched under its “Kanlungan ng Pagbabago” agenda, in a bid to remove from the drug watchlist over 52,000 illegal drug dependents in the cities of Caloocan, Malabon, Navotas and Valenzuela City.
In the recent opening of the program, NPD Director Amando Clifton Empiso said it is a big challenge for police to change the ways of 52,292 drug surrenderers in the district owing to the national and local rehabilitation programs being unable to accommodate local governments.
Under the “Kanlungan “ program, PNP, local governments and entrepreneurs work together to build rehabilitation centers in each city. Selected surrenderers will be undergoing the short-term program to be provided by the Department of Health’s medical and psychological examination team and the Technical Education Skills Development Authority skills training for employment.
Empiso hopes that due to the rehabilitation program, many barangays in Camanava will be declared “drug free” as the basis for effective anti-illegal drug programs.
