The Heat Can Kill Rabbits

By Christian Parlade

Summer is here and it's brutally hot. Please make sure you keep your rabbits comfortable. They are VERY susceptible to heat stroke. Here are a couple of things that can help you out:

1. Keep them in an air conditioned room, especially during the hot hours of the day (crucial at around 11 AM – 5 PM).

2. Keep them out of the sun. Rabbits are INDOOR pets.

3. Make sure they have unlimited access to water. (ice in water shown in the picture)

4. Make sure they have a cool surface to stay in (cooling mat shown in picture). A tile is also a popular choice.

5. Make sure the room has good ventillation.

6. Have a wet blanket on the side of the cage and have the electric fan blow on that.

7. Moisten your rabbit's ears (not completely wet)

8. DO NOT GIVE YOUR RABBIT A BATH. DO NOT GIVE YOUR RABBIT A BATH. DO NOT GIVE YOUR RABBIT A BATH

9. Give veggies submerged in water (still follow rules of giving veggies. Don't do this indiscriminately)

10. Have frozen water bottles inside the cage to help cool your bunny..
