A passenger van fell into a 40-foot ravine along a highway in Tagkawayan, Quezon before dawn Sunday, killing a pregnant woman and hurting nine others.
In a report, Chief Insp. Dandy Aguilar, Tagkawayan police chief, identified the woman as Sagira Haji Ebrehim.
The wounded victims were identified as Salmira Haji Ebrahim, Alnor Lomondot, Karen Galecia, Don Robert Galecia, Jericho Sablayan, Jonard Pusngan, Camadoleng Lomondot, and a certain Allan.
Police investigators said the victims, residents of Piagapo, Lanao del Sur, were bound for Manila when their van fell into the ravine along Quirino Highway in Barangay Francisco at past 4 a.m..
The van hit a roadside store and a waiting shed, before falling into the gorge, police added.
Van driver Alinor Lomondot and the wounded were initially rushed to the Marie L. Eleazar Memorial District Hospital in the town, but were later transferred to a hospital in Manila due to the severity of their injuries.
Police suspect that Lomondot fell asleep while driving the van. With PNA
