The Quezon City Public Library is encouraging children to read “real” books as it launched its new campaign: “Back-to-Reading.” QCPL stresses the importance of reading, especially to children who spend most of their time online or playing with electronic gadgets and devices.
According to Marlyn Bautista, QCPL Children’s Section head, the campaign aims to promote reading among children to diminish the time spent in surfing in the internet or playing digital games.
A three-day mob dance has been held where parents and children from the Lib-and-Rary book club joined the said dance in the Public Library lobby, QC Hall lobby and Quezon Memorial Circle, and in the QCPL rooftop.
The Lib-and-Rary book club was formed in 2015 to bring back interest in reading among children. With an initial membership of five, the book club now has 447 members to date.
The QCPL, with the Lib-and-Rary book club, has been conducting activities including reading tutorials, summer art workshops, film showing, and the conduct of puppet shows to promote the library’s campaigns and advocacies.
