Grab owes users P1.8b–solon

A party-list lawmaker on Tuesday said Transport Network Service provider Grab should refund its customers some P1.8 billion due to overcharging.

At the same time, Puwersa ng Bayaning Atleta Party-list Rep. Jericho Nograles questioned Grab’s recent merger and acquisition of Uber Philippines as he noted that this is a clear violation of prevailing anti-trust laws particularly the provisions of the Philippine Competition Act.

In an interview over CNN Philippines’ morning show “The Source,” Nograles said that based on his research, Grab has been “illegally” charging its customers P2 per minute of travel time despite its public declarations and collaterals that they are not making any per-minute charge. This is on top of its flagdown rate of P40 and charging P10 to P14 per kilometer.

“The LTFRB [Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board]should impose a refund. Otherwise, they are liable to graft,” Nograles said.
