THE country’s top beach volleyball players trek north to Pangasinan in Dagupan’s Tondaligan Blue Beach for Beach Volleyball Republic’s “BVR On Tour” National Championship, which will be streamed live on the ABS-CBN Sports Youtube starting this Friday until Sunday.
Sixteen teams for each division will battle for the top prize of P50,000 and get a chance to represent the country in the upcoming 2018 FIVB World Tour in Manila next month. Second place teams will receive P25,000, while third placers will take home P15,000.
Jade Becaldo and Calvin Sarte of Team Ato Ni Bai will lead the contingent for the Men’s Division together with the likes of Henry Pecana and KR Guzman of Team Tigers, Rommel Pepito and Ranran Abdilla of Team Air Force 1, and the pair of Berlin Paglinawan and Peter Torres of Team Bulldogs.
Over at the Women’s Division, reigning national champs Catubag and Quilario of Tagum-PNP are set to defend their crown against challengers led by Coyah Abanto and Judy Caballejo of Team Air Force 1, Dzi Gervacio and Kassie Gormley of Team Wakanda, and Charo Soriano and Bea Tan of Seafront Residences.
Last year’s National Championship, held in Cagayan’s Anguib Beach, saw the tandem of Becaldo and Pepito of Team Cebu rule the Men’s Division while a pair of policewomen in Lourdilyn Catubag and Karen Quilario of Tagum-PNP reigned supreme in the Women’s Division.
Apart from world-class beach volleyball action, BVR is also holding a “Sandroots” workshop for local residents to spread the love and appreciation for the game of beach volleyball. Helping them in this advocacy is Philippine volleyball phenom Alyssa Valdez, who will serve as one of the coaches.
BVR co-founder Bea Tan encourages beach volleyball fans from all over the country to join them in Dagupan for three days of quality beach volleyball.
“We are looking forward to an intense National Championship showdown in Dagupan since whoever wins will get to represent our country in the coming 2018 FIVB World Tour. Also, we are excited for the ‘Sandroots’ workshop with Alyssa since this will help in our goal of growing the sport in the country,” BVR co-founder Bea Tan said.
