QC allocates 1% of budget for disabled

THE Quezon City government has allocated 1 percent of its collected taxes for the welfare of all persons with disabilities in the city.

Mayor Herbert Bautista said the city will now adopt a comprehensive development program for the benefit of the PWDs, following the passage of an ordinance mandating a 1-percent budget allocation for programs and projects to benefit the PWDs.

He said the move is imperative to the city government’s continuing effort to mainstream PWDs in all government programs and to open opportunities toward an inclusive society for all.

“What the city is doing is planning our investments for us to able to address the city’s various health challenges, especially those concerns affecting PWDs in the city,” Bautista said.

To date, there are about 39,744 registered PWDs in Quezon City.

Based on a report, at least 20 percent of the PWDs given employment referrals are now gainfully employed in retail stores, food chains, business process outsourcing and government agencies as well.

Bautista tasked the city’s Persons with Disability Affairs Office to partner with big companies and the national government agencies to help the PWDs avail of job opportunities.

Meanwhile, Bautista approved an ordinance to establish the Fernando C. Amorsolo Senior High School in Barangay Kamuning.

City Ordinance 2656 of 2018 stated the local school board has recommended to name the Senior High School within M.H. del Pilar Elementary School compound after the first National Artist of the country, Fernando C. Amorsolo.

“In honor of his legacy, the senior high school to be established at Barangay Kamuning, shall be named as Fernando C. Amorsolo Senior High School,” the measure read.
