ALMOST 300 students and teachers from the four divisions of Batangas participated in the Sports Journalism seminar conducted by the Philippines Sports Commission, March 19 and 20 in Barangay Bolboc, Batangas City.
Public schools from divisions of Lipa, Batangas Province, City of Batangas and Tanauan City actively joined the said event, which is a project of PSC Chairman William Ramirez.
During the first edition of the seminar held in Davao City last February, Ramirez said that since media is a big part of the sporting community, it is just fitting to give attention to our “future communication people to ensure that we start them off in the right direction.”
Positivity in sports is a message that is carried by the event.
“We hope that you do not only stop at the who, what, where and when of a story,” said PSC Commissioner Arnold Agustin in his welcome message in the Batangas seminar. “We hope that you make an effort to tell the story of how, what motivated an athlete, what challenges he overcame so we can inspire others to reach for their own dreams.”
Resource persons Marianne Abalayan, Dr. Serg Opena, Dr. Gem Valderrama and Prof. Ed Fernandez, during their respective lectures, enjoined the students and teachers to “write about the PSC, our athletes and programs and help spread the positive benefits of sports.”
