The truth of about head lice home remedies

Summer is the time when children spend more hours playing with other kids, enjoying their vacation. This is also the time parents should be extra cautious of their child getting infected with head lice given that they reproduce rapidly during this season.

Ever since head lice existed, there have been several “remedies” on how to eliminate these tiny blood-sucking parasites, which, despite being passed on from one parent to another, are not at all proven effective.

Mayonnaise is not shampoo

Mayonnaise may be delicious until you spread it all over your kid’s hair. This method is told to be effective in suffocating head lice, which in the end, eradicates them. But the truth is, head lice can survive up to six hours in suffocation, which means you have to leave the mayo spread on your kid’s hair for a long time. Thus, solving your kid’s head lice infestation using mayonnaise can be counterproductive as nits can grow after a few days and head lice infestation can reoccur.

Kerosene is unsafe

Probably the most horrendous solution to kill head lice is to soak your child’s hair with kerosene. This home remedy is one of the oldest, perhaps used by your great grandmother, in treating head lice. However, experts warn against using this method, as fumes dissipated by kerosene can easily ignite even the smallest spark or flame which may likely burn your kid’s hair. Plus, the chemical can be too harmful to your child’s health.

Nit comb is not effective

Each household has had at least one of those fine-toothed nit comb. It can actually be helpful in getting rid of adult head lice but not lice eggs. An adult lice produces up to 100 eggs, which means using a nit comb to eradicate lice can be endless. Hundreds of these nits can turn into adults in a matter of days and will cause your kid the same inconvenience, not to mention the sting that this comb brings to their scalp.

Head lice infestation has become ordinary among Filipino households thus urging parents to address it using alternatives. But this can actually be treated in a proper way such as consulting a doctor or, the more affordable way, using a head lice treatment shampoo such as Licealiz.

Licealiz Head Lice Treatment Shampoo effectively kills lice and nits after two weeks of use and prevents lice infestations from recurring. Its active ingredient, pyrethrin, a natural extract from chrysanthemum flowers, is clinically tested and is proven safe and successful in killing lice and nits.
