Four charging stations for modern public utility vehicle will see completion in various locations in Metro Manila by the first quarter of 2018, according to Swiss technology firm ABB.
The first three charging stations will be deployed in Shell gasoline stations – one on C. Raymundo Avenue, Pasig City; one at 5 E Rodriguez Avenue, Bagumbayan Libis, Quezon City; (Shell C5 Eastwood Northbound) and another at the SM Mall of Asia, Seaside Blvd., Pasay City. The fourth location is still being undergoing discussions. The entire initiative is expected to save over 350 million liters of oil per year, or 3 percent of total imported crude.
ABB is providing 200 Terra 53 multi-standard electric vehicle DC charging stations over the next three years in support of the country’s modernization program for public utility vehicles (PUVs) and in partnership with local e-mobility start-up firm QEV Philippines.
As QEV Philippines’ technology partner, ABB will support the venture’s mission to provide greener mobility solutions with its fast-charging technology for all current and next-generation vehicles. Both companies see this partnership as an important step in improving air quality and reducing carbon emissions on Manila’s congested roads.
“ABB is delighted to be involved in bringing game-changing technologies to the transportation landscape of the Philippines. This is an important step in moving away from fossil fuel-dependent vehicles to cleaner, more sustainable options.” said Head of ABB’s Global Business for Electric Vehicle Charging Frank Mühlon.
ABB will supply Terra 53 chargers as part of a broader cloud-enabled network. As part of the ABB Ability™ portfolio of connected solutions, the network gives users access to internet-based connected services such as remote assistance, tailored diagnostic troubleshooting and repair, and remote updates and upgrades.
“Together with ABB, QEV is in full support of the Philippine government’s Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) modernization program. Our vision to convert some 20,000 jeepneys into cleaner EVs will help operators reduce energy and maintenance costs,” said QEV Philippines General Manager Audrey Penaranda.
ABB is a leader in all aspects of the EV value chain – seamlessly managing the flow of electricity from grid to vehicle, and integrating service information and payments. ABB has already installed more than 6,000 cloud-based charging solutions across more than 55 countries.
