Aquino turns back hands of time, lifts Kuyas

IMUS – Former Ginebra star Marlou Aquino put on a vintage performance to help Bulacan end Batangas City’s six-game winning streak with an 80-72 win Saturday night in the Anta-Rajah Cup at the Imus Sports Complex here.

In his finest game so far, the 6’9” Aquino, 45, produced eight points, four rebounds, two assists and a block as the Kuyas improved to 4-3.

Aquino’s performance earned raves from coach Chris Baluyot and Commissioner Kenneth Duremdes.

“Kalabaw lang ang tumatanda,” said Baluyot. “Usually, nag-iensayo ‘yan, three days before or four days before. Pero ngayon, tyinaga niya, nagsabi siya sa akin na gusto niyang makatulong sa team.”

“Galing pa yan sa isang exhibition game sa South Cotabato,” added Duremdes.

Also shining for the Kuyas was Jovit dela Cruz, who delivered the telling blows in the crunch. He drilled in six of his 14 points in the last two minutes to help the Kuyas repel Batangas’ rally.

Meantime, Orly Daroya hit a buzzer-beating triple to lift Imus Bandera-GLC Truck and Equipment to a come-from-behind 70-67 triumph over a tough Navotas Clutch-Big J Sports

The hot-shooting swingman hit six-of-eight triples on his way to a career-high 29 points.

“We had a quick pin down play.  There’s an option for the shooter and there’s also an option for slip. Credit to Mikee (Cabahug), he made a good pass to Orly,” said Imus coach Jerry Codinera.
