P8m in beauty products seized by Customs

The Bureau of Customs has seized illegally imported beauty products worth more than P8 million, which were declared as personal effects at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport.

The seized shipment consigned to a certain James Malinao Halasan came from Bangkok, Thailand, and arrived in Manila on board PR731 last week, according to Naia district collector Vincent Phillip Maronilla.

The shipment was ordered seized after the x-ray examination showed images of irregularity and found out the misdeclared items.

“To ensure that the packages will not slip under our sleeves, BoC already issued an alert order on the remaining eight packages of Halasan,” Customs Commissioner Isidor Lapeña said.

He said the shipment was already considered abandoned after the consignee did not show up to claim the packages.

“The value of the remaining packages weighing more than 501 kilos will be determined once the inventory is done. It will be subject to seizure for the violation of section 1400 of RA 10863,” Lapeña said.

The confiscated items will be destroyed, he added.
