THE Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines is formally designating the City of Calamba as the official host city of the 2nd National Students Karate Championship.
The NSKC, which serves as the international qualifying tournament, is being organized in partnership with the Philippine Inter-Schools Colleges and Universities Athletic Association and State Colleges Athletic Association, both of which belong to the FESSAP-affiliated Philippine Karate-do Federation Inc.
The PKFI has been directed by the FESSAP to conduct the technical aspect of the championship.
As the competitions’ host city, Calamba Mayor Justin Marc Chipeco gave his stamp of approval for the staging of the event.
The 2nd NSKC will be held on April 5 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. The venue for the one-day event is SM Mall-Calamba.
The National Students Championship will be the counterpart promotion of the World Karate University Championship that will be organized by the International University Sports Federation, the governing body for university sports around the world.
The FESSAP, which is the sole national university sports association in the country that has been recognized by the FISU since 2009, welcomes the participation of the Local Government Units, led by Mayor Chipeco.
The FESSAP has a nationwide registered membership of more than 300 colleges and universities from the various affiliated league-club organization and institutions such as State Colleges Universities Athletic Association, Leyte Amateur Athletic Association, PRISAA, CAAP, PISCUAA, PICAA, CESAFI, and many others.
The 2nd National Students Karate Championship will feature competitions in several weight categories with the winners to be invited to compete in the 11thWorld University Karate Championship in Kobe, Japan from July 19 to 22.
Mayor Chipeco, to be assisted by his City Tourism and Sports Development office headed by Ms. Larissa P. Malinao, and City Sports Director Officer-III Roel M. Torres, will be at hand to coordinate with FESSAP-affiliated member Philippine Karatedo Federation Inc. for the technical aspect of the tournament proper.
The Philippines Karatedo Federation Inc. is headed by Jose D. Manansala and Secretary-General Nestor C. Asido.
The Karate competitions are being organized in accordance with the current World Karate Federation (WKF) rules. In case of disagreement in the interpretation of these rules, the English text shall take precedence.
