UNIVERSITY students walked out of their classes en masse Friday to protest the policies of President Rodrigo Duterte, including his bloody war on drugs, the tax reform law that has raised commodity prices, attacks on press freedom, martial law in Mindanao and Charter change.
Joining the protest were students from the Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, Far Eastern University, National University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, University of the East, University of the Philippines, and University of Santo Tomas.
Similar protests were held in Baguio, Cebu and Iloilo, the leftist League of Filipino Students said.
In UP Diliman, the steps of Palma Hall were filled with protesters, including teachers, jeepney drivers and vendors, after Chancellor Michael Tan encouraged students to participate “as part of their education.”
Jeepney drivers, angry at the administration plan to phase out old jeepneys, honked their horns in support of the protest.
