Ubial tagged in Dengvaxia mess

A lawmaker believes Former Health Secretary Paulyn Ubial must be held responsible for the Dengvaxia controversy.

Senator Winston Gatchalian says, Ubial should be included in the list of persons who should be held liable for the deaths of children which were supposedly connected with government's nationwide immunization program.

Gatchalian stressed the vaccination originally involved only school children yet Ubial further expanded the program to make it a community-based project.

Cebu was reportedly added to the areas were the immunization program was administered.

The senator said Ubial's explanation during the Senate investigation that she enforced the program due to political pressure was unacceptable.

Gatchalian said the former health official had put the lives of children on the line.

Former Department of Health (DOH) Janette Garin said Ubial had intensified the implementation of the program.

It took effect from 2016 to 2017.

She said more children were given the Dengvaxia vaccine during Ubial's time.

Ubial had supposedly continued the administration of the second and third doses of the vaccine on children during her term.
