THE Metro Manila Development Authority announced on Friday the resumption of road reblocking and other repairs along major thoroughfares in the metropolis.
The Department of Public Works and Highways resumed the road works Friday night after the MMDA lifted last Jan. 16 the moratorium it imposed on diggings and repairs in anticipation of a monstrous traffic in Metro Manila during the recent holidays.
In its advisory, the MMDA public information office stated that the DPWH National Capital Region Office would undertake road reblocking and repairs starting 11 p.m. of Jan. 19 until Jan. 22 in these areas:
Quezon City –
1. Southbound middle and inner lanes of A. Bonifacio Avenue from Bulusan Street to Calavite Street
2. Northbound inner lane of Visayas Avenue in front of NFA
3. Northbound 5th lane of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue from Howmart to Oliveros
4. Northbound 3rd lane of Congressional Avenue Extension, Miranilla Gate
5. Northbound intermittent 2nd lane of C.P. Garcia Avenue from P. Castañeda Street to Pook
6. Northbound 1st lane of Congressional Avenue from Edsa to Cagayan, and
7. Northbound inner lane of Quirino Highway near Sacred Heart of Jesus; and
Caloocan City –
8. Northbound lane of Bonifacio Monumento Circle
“All affected roads will be fully passable by 5 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 22. Motorists are advised to avoid the said areas and use alternate routes instead,” the MMDA-PIO advisory said.
Last November, the MMDA imposed a moratorium prohibiting road diggings in the National
Capital Region to provide relief to commuters and motorists during the holiday season when traffic was expected to be heavy.
Only flagship projects being undertaken by the national government are exempted from the moratorium on road excavations, including bridge repair/construction, emergency leak repairs of water concessionaires, and construction of flood interceptors.
Aside from the moratorium on road diggings, the MMDA also imposed late last year the no delivery of goods during daytime, no mall sales and other crowd-drawing events during weekdays, and the adjusted mall operating hours from the usual 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. to 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
