Judiciary snaps GSIS’ win streak

UNTV Cup two-time champion Judiciary Magis squelched the GSIS Furies’ winning streak during Sunday’s double header of the UNTV Cup Season 6 at the Olivarez gymnasium in Parañaque City.

Judiciary Assistant Joey Yabut said defense was the key to the Magis’ 90–81 victory over the Furies.

“Gumanda ang depensa sa sona,” Yabut said.

The Furies’ performance, on the other hand, was below par.

Four Judiciary Magis, including Justice Midas Marquez (1) gang up on GSIS Furies’ Aaron Sunga  in the UNTV Cup.

GSIS Coach Myk Saguiguit said: “Parang extended vacation pa rin ‘yung game nila kanina. Lagi kaming may lapses sa depensa, parang ang bagal ng reactions namin. Everytime nag su-swing ‘yung bola, sa wing meron kami rules, kaso ang bagal ng recovery kaya lagi sila nakaka-shoot sa labas.”

Judiciary’s Don Camaso was hailed as the Best Player of the Game with 19 points.

In the second game, UNTV Cup fans witnessed a thrilling overtime game as the NHA Builders nipped the Senate Defenders, 104-100

The Defenders dominated the first to third quarters of the ball game.

However, the Builders stepped up in the last few minutes of the fourth quarter with Alvin Vitug, Marvin Mercado and Antonio Lustestica leading the attack.

“Hindi bumigay ‘yung mga players ko. ‘Yung puso nila nandoon na, kahit na anong mangyari kailangan nilang maglaro at kailangan nilang lumaban,” NHA Head Coach Silverio “Bennett” Palad III said.

Vitug was hailed as the Best Player of the Game with 35 points.

Only three weeks are left in the second-round elimination of the tournament for the eight remaining teams to battle for the top six spots.

The top two teams will automatically ease to the semifinal round, while the quarterfinals will see the sixth-to eighth placers going head to head.

The bottom two will exit the league.
