THE AFP Cavaliers survived the fourth-quarter onslaught of the Malacañang-PSC Kamao and pulled off a close 73-71 win Tuesday in the UNTV Cup Season 6 at the JCSGO Gym in Cubao, Quezon City.
Pro-baller-turned-soldier Boyet Bautista displayed an all-around performance, chalking up 20 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists and had ample help from Air Force man Jerry Lamungsod (17 pts, 2 rebs), who delivered the winning basket with 7.7 seconds remaining in the game.
Joseph Besa (18 points) led the Kamao, with support from Eric Dela Cuesta (15 points) and Visnu Das Javier (11 points).
In the first game, former MVP Olan Omiping sizzled for 7 three-pointers as the PNP Responders arrested their slump and fashioned out a 95-87 win over the PDEA Drug Busters.
Omiping tallied 28 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals for the policemen, who are eyeing a spot in the quarterfinals.
Japeth Cabahug piled up 13 points and Alejandro Yanquiling had 11 points for PNP.
On the other hand, Marlon Basco put up a 25-point performance for the Drug Busters, backed up by Julius Perante and Rob Sanz, who had 21 points apiece.
These games will be telecast on Dec. 31 at UNTV.
