Regine all set for 30th year celebration

It is all systems go for the 30th anniversary celebration of Regine Velasquez–Alcasid tomorrow and the starry Songbird has never shone as bright as she does these days.

Regine sold out her anniversary concert tickets in only two days after these were made available. The show, titled R3.0 will be held at the Mall of Asia Arena tonight.  The massive demand for seats from thousands of fans here and abroad prompted Regine to agree to a second show, which will be held the following in the same venue.

Another proof of Regine’s enduring appeal is the fact that she came up with two big hit singles in a month.   

These are her version of the Up Dharma Down song “Tadhana.” which was released late in August and the new original titled “Hugot,” which came out only two weeks ago.  Both are cuts from her upcoming album also titled R3.0.

One of the most awaited music releases of recent times, R3.0 is made up of three discs.  These are Rise, which is made up of new material by local songwriters like “Hugot” by Michael Mendoza, “Higher” by Jimmy Borja and “Skybound” by Mayniell Dulay; Renditions, which contains old favorites that she usually perform in her shows like “Tadhana,” “If You Go Away,” “Usahay” and others; and the third disc, Reflections, has reworkings of some of her biggest hits like “You Are My Song,” “I Can,” “Dadalhin,” “On The Wings Of Love” and others.

Those who will purchase Platinum tickets to the R3.0 concerts will get a free copy of the special 3-disc commemorative edition of the album R3.0.

The R3.0 celebration also marks Regine’s return to Viva, where she became what she is today.  It was at Viva where she recorded her first album in 1987, which included her first hit “Urong Sulong” and her first movie theme song, “Isang Lahi” for Gabi Na Kumander.  This was followed by other hits. like “On The Wings Of Love,” “Dadalhin,” “Ikaw,” and many more.

She made her mark as an actress in the Viva movie Wanted Perfect Mother opposite Christopher de Leon, which also gave her the big hit “You Are My Song.”  This was followed by blockbusters, like Kailangan Ko’y Ikaw with Robin Padilla, Ikaw Lamang Hanggang Ngayon with Richard Gomez, and “Of All The Things” opposite Aga Muhlach.

Regine had her first concert, produced by Viva at the Folk Arts Theater. She is now one of the country’s leading concert artists performing all over the world. It was also with Viva TV that Regine made her hosting debut in the talent show Star for a Night.

All these and many more will be celebrated at MOA on October 21 and 22 with performances by Ogie Alcasid, Morissette Amon, Mark Bautista, Sarah Geronimo, Jed Madela, Lara Maigue, Jona, Julie Anne San Jose, Aicelle Santos, Erik Santos, Angeline Quinto, and other surprise guests.

R3.0 is a presented by VIVA Live and iME in cooperation with GMA Network. Co-presented by PLDT Home, and Belo Medical Group.
