PREPARATIONS for the 2017 Philippine National Games are now under way.
Cebu City, together with Cebu Province, will host the event when it is held from Dec. 10 to 17.
Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Butch Ramirez said this yesterday while leading the PNG coordination meeting at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.
Ramirez reiterated the agency’s commitment to supporting grassroots sports.
The PSC chief, speaking to coaches and technical officials during the meeting said “deepening the hold of grassroots sports will pave the way for larger developments in the country’s push for sports development.”
The agency is set to conduct different activities across the country like the upcoming Batang Pinoy in Vigan this October, Children’s Games and Indigenous Games.
Cooperation with the Department of Education for a bigger and better Palarong Pambansa is also in the works.
Next week, a conclave of collegiate sports stakeholders is set to convene in Pasig City with the prospect of forming a unified association for sports at the university level.
“If we do something, let us do the best we could. Let us make a great edition of the PNG and discover the hidden gems in our youth,” said Ramirez.
The PNG was last held in Pangasinan in March 2016.
