The House Committee on Justice has voted to approve the committee report that dismisses the impeachment complaint against Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Chairman Andres Bautista.
26 members voted to approve the ruling favoring Bautista while 2 members opposed.
The decision affirms the junking of the impeachment case filed by Former Negros Oriental Representative Jacinto Paras and lawyer Ferdinand Topacio.
The committee report is based on a previous decision of the House panel that found the complaint against Bautista to be insufficient in form.
Members earlier agreed that the document had used flawed wordings in the verification.
The ill-fated impeachment complaint was based on the accusations of Bautista's estranged wife Patricia Cruz-Bautista.
She had claimed that the Comelec chairman failed to disclose nearly P 1-billion worth of bank deposits, investments and properties in his Statement of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth or SALN.
