In a combined sales information released by the Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. and the Truck Manufacturers Association, the third quarter showed an impressive 14.1 percent increase compared to the same month last year with 32,993 units sold. Collectively, the commercial vehicles segment also accomplished 23,954 units with 13.8 percent increase over the same period last year with 21,042 units sold. Truck sales are on the upswing which help boost overall industry sales. “The overall sales last June is relatively higher compared to that of May’s due to the well-maintained inventory levels helping the prompt delivery of vehicles amongst the major players. All these factors led to our improved sales in June 2017. In additional to a good stock level, manufacturers maximized “dealer push” that brought higher sales specifically to their key models,” CAMPI President Rommel Gutierrez said.
It is on this note that Pioneer Truck Parts and Equipment Corporation recently held a media tour of their sprawling facility in Cabuyao, Laguna. With representatives of different media outfits in tow, Aaron Go, Managing Director of Pioneer Trucks led the activities which was an eye opener for the motoring media who usually covers automotive facilities. “Pioneer is a family owned and operated import based company that wholesales and retails U.S. and European made truck and trailer parts that caters to the domestic logistics and transport of commercial goods,” he explains.
After a welcome briefing about the day’s event, Go started the tour by taking us around Pioneer’s 8,000 square meter covered truck repair and maintenance yard. “From windshield replacement, brake repair and engine overhaul or replacement, all major and minor jobs are done in this facility with our well trained personnel and our extensive inventory of truck parts and accessories,” adds Go. As the exclusive distributors of the Speed Limiter device, Pioneer also does installation of the device in-house or send mechanics to install the speed limiter device on-site depending on the client’s requirements.”We have already installed Speed Limiters to truck fleets of major logistics companies and truck manufacturers such as Isuzu Philippines Corporation,” reveals Go.
After touring the facility, the media were led to a portion of the facility were the future showroom of DAF Trucks will rise. They also prepared DAF trucks for the media. Aside from truck and trailer parts, Pioneer is also the importer of globally known truck brands such as DAF, Kenworth, International and Peterbuilt. “DAF Trucks NV is a Dutch truck manufacturing company and a division of Paccar. Its headquarters and main plant are in Eindhoven. Cabs and axle assemblies are produced at its Westerlo plant in Belgium. Some of the truck models sold with the DAF brand are designed and built by Leyland Trucks at their Farington plant in Leyland near Preston, England,” says Go.
Pioneer also carries other brands for trucks and trailer parts such as PNW systems, JOST, Kenworth, and PACCAR parts and accessories. Their satellite showroom is located at their corporate headquarters in 341 G. Araneta Avenue, Baragay Santol, Quezon City. They have every part and accessory on display at their G. Araneta showroom.
Speed Limiter trial
After the truck facility tour, the media were allowed to experience the safety benefits of having a Speed Limiter installed in your truck or AUV, most specially public transport vans which is popular around Metro Manila. They prepared a truck and a Ford SUV equipped with a Speed Limiter.
Their product is a device that electronically controls the top speed of vehicles, either to comply with government legislation or the vehicle owner’s requirements without affecting any other aspect of the vehicle’s operation. “Aside from reducing road accidents due to controlling of the vehicle’s speed, Speed Limiter also helps improve fuel consumption and emissions,” explains Go. The device works by way of controlling the fuel flow system (for vehicles without engine managements) or by a drive by wire system. “The ECU is connected to a speed signal (electronic speedometer, ABS or mechanical sensor) and receives frequency signals while the vehicle is moving. At a pre set frequency, say 80kph, the ECU transmits a signal to the engine management system which then holds the vehicle’s speed. The operator/owner can pre set the maximum speed of the truck or van as he wishes,” explains Go.
Aside from preserving the vehicle’s engine because of rev and speed control, the speed limiter will stop erring drivers from over revving and immediately equate to cutting down on fuel costs. This rev control system ensures to correct driver behavior and driving style which is crucial in an urban environment. “Our objective is for all fleet owners to extend vehicle life, improve economy, reduce maintenance costs and promote public commuter safety,” adds Go.
Pioneer has been in the trucking business for almost a decade and has seen the industry’s gradual growth down the years. “We are at the crossroads of our career here and the upward trend in the logistics industry is very encouraging. We will be here to provide the needs for the industry,” says Go.
