Microchip workers hold picket

Hundreds of workers in a factory that make smartphones, missile parts and aircraft console, and other electronic gadgets and equipment held a picket in front of the worksite because of alleged union busting,  unsafe and unhealthy workplace and illegal dismissal of its regular workers.

More than 600 Amertron electronics workers complained that officials of Amertron Inc. had mistreated them with poor wages, lack of health insurance benefits and substandard personal protective equipment amid the constant exposure to highly toxic chemicals, fumes and smokes in the assembly of microchips.

The workers affiliated with the United Amertron Organization-Associated Labor Unions-TUCP said that they had been abused for many years by the company’s management.

“The Amertron workers cannot take it anymore. We stand with them as they rise up, fight and exercise their right to protest against years of violation of the general labor standards and occupational safety and health standards. We will help them as they fight for their security of tenure, right to lawful wages, benefits, health insurance and safe and healthy workplace,” Alan Tanjusay, spokesperson of the Associated Labor Unions-Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (ALU-TUCP) said.
