An activist group accused Davao City policemen of preventing delegates from boarding their flight to Manila to attend an indigenous peoples’ community schools conference on Saturday.
Bagong Alyansang Makabayan secretary-general Renato Reyes Jr. in his Facebook post claimed that the lumad students, their parents and teachers attending the “Save Our Schools National Conference” at the University of the Philipines-Diliman in Quezon City were held up by Davao City policemen.
Reyes said the policemen asked the lumad students to produce a permit to travel before they were allowed to board the plane.
Lindy Trenilla, a social worker of the Children’s Rehabilitation Center in Souther Mindanao who is among the delegates, confirmed the post, and said that they have already secured and presented to the Davao police their travel permit given by the City Social Services and Development Office of Davao City.
