128 bowlers reach BWC national finals

ONE HUNDRED and 28 pintopplers—80 men and 48 ladies—will vie for honors in the 2017 Bowling World Cup national finals which kicks off on Saturday, Sept. 9 at Coronado Lanes (Starlanes).

Among the participants who are seeking the right to represent the Philippines in the WBC international finals scheduled on November 4-12 in Hermosillo, Mexico are Raoul Miranda, Paulo Valdez, Kevin Cu, Kenneth Chua, Benshir Layoso, Sammy Say Sy, Liza del Rosario, Liza Clutario, Lara Posadas, Mades Arles, Alexis Sy and Krizziah Tabora.

Miranda and Posadas carried the country’s colors in last year’s WBC international finals in Shanghai, China.

The men’s aspirants will play 12 games each on Saturday, while the ladies will roll their first 10 games on Sunday, Sept. 10 also at Coronado Lanes.  The top 34 men and lady bowlers will advance to the second round.

With their scores carried over, the 68 survivors will play anew 12 and 10 games at Paeng’s Midtown Bowl (Ermita) – the men on Monday, Sept. 11 and the ladies on Tuesday, Sept. 12 – to determine the top eight ladies and top eight men who will remain in the race for the national title on Wednesday, Sept. 13 at Paeng’s Eastwood.

The top eight in both divisions will bowl a round-robin format and positioning on the eighth game, the winner getting 30 points and 15 points for a tie.  The top four men and top four ladies will then advance to the best 2 of 3-game semifinals, pitting 1 against 4 and 2 against 3 based on their rankings.

The winners will dispute the crown and the trip to Mexico.
