Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista has been recognized by the scouting movement for his leadership and support to the Boy Scouts of the Philippines Quezon City Council for the past 25 years.
“Honorable Herbert M. Bautista has been a long-term contributor to scouting, serving the board for 20 years in the roles of member-at-large, senior vice-chairman, and council chairman,” council scout executive Dr. Antonio Merino said.
The BSP Quezon City Council also recognized Bautista for being the pioneer and progressive advocate for the environment and climate change issues.
Quezon City is the first city in the Philippines to implement a Green Building Ordinance, an ordinance requiring the design, construction, retrofitting of buildings, other structures and, movable properties to meet minimum standards of a green infrastructure.
“He is leading the city to reduce its carbon footprint through the shift of public facilities towards alternative energy sources, wider installation of systems for resources, reuse, and restrictions in the use of non-biodegradable materials, such as, plastic bags,” Dr. Merino added.
Mayor Bautista as the council chairman of BSP Quezon City, led the construction of a three-storey annex building and provides financial assistance of more than P1 million annually.
