Safety in the city

Metro Manila commuters agree that traveling around this megacity is no easy feat.

Those who take public transportation have to deal with our inefficient public transport system, and all that it entails. And as if that’s not enough, there’s also the danger of losing our belongings from the hands of thieves. No wonder why in a commissioned study by car manufacturer Ford, 30 percent of Filipinos said that commuting was the “worst part of their day.”

We know solving the first issue requires efficient and effective urban planning; for the second issue, we, as a commuter only need to be mindful of our surroundings and belongings—that sounds like a lot of stress, thankfully there’s a bag company that gives travelers peace of mind.

WORRY-FREE. Travel around the metro without worrying about losing your belongings with Pacsafe's new Citysafe CX collection of functional and stylish bags equipped with anti-theft features.

Australian travel gear brand Pacsafe wants your stuff secured while you’re on the go. Pacsafe products have been revolutionizing travel with its anti-theft technology, thus giving them the tag as “the safest bag in the world.”

“Pacsafe has always been known for its anti-theft technology. We have always been focused on functionality and making sure that you are always secured while you’re on the go—giving you peace of mind on all your adventures,” said Pacsafe brand manager Hannah Villame.

However, functional doesn’t always mean stylish. The label’s bags, while safe with their eXomesh slashguard, Carrysafe slashguard straps, and RFIDsafe pockets, look “manly,” so to speak.

According to Pacsafe merchandising head Charmaine Siason, around 80 percent of Pacsafe market is male.

“Previous styles are manlier, [because] initially it was more targeted towards male consumers,” Siason told MS Young Life. “Pacsafe has a line for women, but it’s only in the classic line, which caters to more mature women market.”

Young, and even the not-so-young, women who want a bag teeming with anti-theft features now have seven styles to choose from, as Pacsafe recently launched its Citysafe CX collection.

Made for dynamic city living, these bags allow you to be fully mobile around the city, being worry-free to embark on both daily and daring urban adventures: a long commute, traversing the business district, a walking food tour, or even an overnight staycation.

Anti-theft Wristlet in Blush Tan

The collection is composed of Anti-theft Wristlet (P2,490) perfect for storing IDs, credit cards, and other small valuable items; Crossbody (P3,390) that’s ideal for mall trips or dates; Convertible Crossbody (P4,490) whose expandable flap makes it bigger; CX Hobo (P5,590) perfect for students or working commuters; Convertible Backpack (P5,590) that collapses into a crossbody bag; CX Backpack (P7,190) that’s spacious enough for your everyday essentials and 13-inch laptop; and CX Tote (P7,790) that you can use as an overnighter bag or gym bag.

Each style comes in black, merlot, and blush tan colors.

“We want to move towards being fashionable with this collection. You’ll see that all seven styles are versatile, still have all the anti-theft features, and they’re nice to look at,” Siason proudly shared.

Another highlight of the new collection is the Roobar Style locking system—an electro-plated gold hardware that locks zipper at a specific security point. The salt water-tested hardware, according to Siason, won’t rust. There’s also the Turn & Lock or Snap & Lock mechanisms that allow owners to attach their bags around fixed handles such as chair pillars or poles.

The Pacsafe Citysafe CX collection is currently available in all Travel Club branches, and will be available in Pacsafe stores (Glorietta 5 G/F, SM Mall of Asia 2/F and SM Seaside Cebu 2/F), Urbanize and Rustan’s branches, as well as Fashion Rack NAIA 3 and Duty Free starting August 1.
