Maute group retaliates following military air strikes

The Maute terrorist group is still able to launch retaliatory attacks against government forces in Marawi City.

On Wednesday morning, the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) conducted air strikes in the terrorists' positions.

But reports from the ground indicate that the Maute terrorists are able to also launch counter-attacks.

The terrorists would actively fire back, in response to assaults from the military.

Last week, government estimated the number of Maute terrorists remaining in Marawi City at 80.

Before noon today, rain began to pour in the conflict-torn city.

Dark, cloudy skies prevail.

Fighting between the military and the terrorist rages amid this weather.

Yesterday, President Rodrigo Duterte had said, he needed 15 more days to end the crisis in Marawi City.

Duterte was initially in disbelief at how the Maute group was able to stockpile weapons in the city.

“This is the 45th, 46th day? Hindi maubos-ubos ang [armas], lalo na yung grenades (their arms do not get depleted, especially the grenades),” he noted.

The 60-day effectivity of martial law in Mindanao expires on July 22.
