Antipolo, DSWD assist street kids

Streetchildren of Antipolo and their families recently received a total of P460,000 in cash from City Mayor Jun Ynares during the flag raising ceremony at Sumulong Park.

The city government of Antipolo, with the help of the Department of Social Welfare and Development, distributed the funds to the members of Antipoleño Pamilyang Pilipino Sustainable Livelihood Program Association.

“Giving financial support is a big help for them [streetchildren’s families] to start a small business that will eventually turn out to be the source for their basic needs. Our local government is continuously doing such programs for those who are in need,” Ynares said.

Part of the DSWD’s Comprehensive Program for Street Children and Street Families At-Risk on the Streets is to implement such activities in molding the streetchildren’s physical, mental, attitude, emotional, and moral aspects, and to give opportunities for the parents to earn money while still in line with the program’s objective to keep the children off the streets.

Also, 46 parent-members of the association joined the three-day training on Micro-Enterprise Management to gain knowledge about running a business.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,437 streetchildren saved from the Oplan Lingap Kabataan sa Lansangan since 2015 until now are under a similar program by the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
