3k Yakal seedlings planted at eco-park

DIADI, Nueva Vizcaya—At least 3,000 Yakal (Shorea Astylosa) tree seedlings have been planted at the eco-park here as part of the provincial government’s effort to rehabilitate its forest landscape.

The trees were provided by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, which was earlier requested by the provincial government for the 410-hectare Teak plantation of the Lower Magat Eco-Tourism Park located in barangay San Luis in this town.

Nequita Castro, park manager, said this was implemented through a Memorandum of Agreement between the provincial government and the DENR. The partnership is aimed at improving the forest cover of the LMETP and provide livelihood for the neighboring villagers, she said.

“The provincial government will be leading the effort for the massive planting at LMTEP along with other sectors of the province,” Castro added.
