THE biggest and most prestigious showdown of local and international cockfighters saw a three-way tie for the coveted World Slasher Cup 2 at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.
A trio of entries emerged as co-champions each carrying 8-1 win-loss records. The Escolin Brothers (Escolin Eslabon), Frank Berin (Mulawin), and Anthony “Tonton” Lim (Lucban) each only dropped a game at this year’s WSC, which enticed a crowd of over 9,000 on its final day of the gamefowl battle royal.
The champions were finally handed their trophies in an elegant ceremony Wednesday at the Monet 3 ballroom of Novotel Manila-Araneta Center.
Among the attendees of the festivity hosted by Pintakasi of Champions and backed by partners Thunderbird, Petron, Excellence Poultry and Livestock Specialists were 2017 Miss Universe PH Rachel Peters and current Bb. Pilipinas International Mariel de Leon to cap-off WSC2’s exciting 7-day run.
Escolin Eslabon almost had the whole thing in the bag before tripping on its last game against Balete Eco Farm of Peter Alsosa after racking up eight straight wins.
Berin, the WSC 1 champ, outlasted Rep. Kulit Alcala (VJA Khulit CC Combine 2) in the derby’s last fight; Lim suffered his only loss in his entry’s seventh fight.
Berin, whose entry Sebastian NEJ was the solo champ in WSC1 this year, said after his win, “Mula po nung January hanggang ngayon, wala pa rin pong pagbabago (sa paghahanda namin para sa Slasher).
