SC sets oral arguments on Duterte’s martial law declaration

The Supreme Court (SC) is set to hold oral arguments on President Rodrigo Duterte’s martial law proclamation in Mindanao.

This is in response to the petition filed by the opposition bloc in the House of Representatives led by Albay Representative Edcel Lagman.

The oral arguments have been set for June 13, 14 and 15, 2017.

The high tribunal has also ordered Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and Armed Forces Chief of Staff Eduardo Año to file their comments on the petition.

Lawmakers had questioned before the SC the constitutionality of Duterte’s Proclamation Number 216.

SC justices came up with the schedule of oral arguments during their en banc session on Tuesday.
