The Casa’s ‘Man Cave’ auction

Casa De Memoria, the country’s premier auction house for European fine and decorative arts, recently shone the spotlight on the men of society. Their most recent auction, dubbed “The Gentleman’s Pursuits,” featured furniture, paintings, and various conversation pieces that were bold, imposing, and downright masculine—the type of pieces that would fit right in a well-curated man cave.

The viewing party, held at Casa De Memoria’s main gallery on Jupiter St. in Makati, had more than just society’s refined men in attendance. Present were the likes of Aga Muhlach, who’s been collecting art and antiquities along with his equally stylish wife, Charlene Gonzales. Joanna Preysler and Raul Francisco of The Provenance Gallery were also in the event, comfortably in their element as one of Manila’s respected couples in art.

With an assortment of cocktails by ABV and hors d’oeuvres by Lazy Bastard, esteemed guests were in high spirits as they basked in the beauty of the pieces on display, curated by none other than renowned Creative Consultant Miguel Rosales. Notable lots sold included a painting by Portuguese contemporary artist Sara Maia, an 18th century center table carved in the Baroque style of Don Jose I, and even a signed copy of Helmut Newton’s SUMO—the biggest and most expensive book of the 20th century.

Casa De Memoria’s next auction, Auction .0007, is on July 1.
