A PIRATED version of the Hollywood film Logan inadvertently played on the official Facebook page of the Presidential Communications Operations Office, prompting an apology from state broadcaster Radio Television Malacañang following the series of blunders involving the Palace communications team this week.
The opening scenes of the film, which is part of the X-Men franchise and stars Australian actor Hugh Jackman, played for a few minutes through the Facebook Live feature of the social networking site before it was pulled out by page administrators.
“RTVM would like to apologize for a film that was accidentally aired live at the Presidential Communications Facebook page today, June 2, 2017,” RTVM said in a statement.
“The film was erroneously played for a few seconds by our technician that was doing a test on the equipment setup,” the state broadcaster said.
RTVM promised to prevent another blunder in the documentation of the President’s activities.
“We regret that this slip-up happened while we continued to work on our daily broadcast documentation and coverage of presidential engagements,” RTVM said.
“We remain committed to our mission in serving the Filipino people through news dissemination with the widest communication reach.”
The RTVM blunder was the fifth faced by the PCOO this week, and following the apologies made by the state-run Philippine News Agency on Tuesday for publishing incorrect information in two articles on its website, including one about the Marawi clash that used a photo from a scene during the Vietnam War; alleged “fake photos” by Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson for posting about Filipino soldiers amid the Marawi crisis but accompanying her post with a photo of the Honduras police.
Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella on Thursday, meanwhile, disowned a 36-second martial law propaganda video produced by the PCOO, which stressed that martial law should be the “rule of the land” and was later taken down after it backfired.
Communications Secretary Martin Andanar on Wednesday likewise abolished the Strategic Communications Office and later issued a statement that he didn’t fire anyone in dissolving the unit.
