Biking for fitness and art

Companies today think of creative ways to engage their employees in non-work related activities that would give them a sense of fulfillment.

“For six years now, we continue to encourage our colleagues to sign up for fitness challenges wherein we each have the opportunity to feel good and do good at the same time,” said Aneth Ng-Lim, Corporate Affairs head of Citi in the Philippines.

Over a six-week period, employees of the country’s largest foreign bank can start a fitness regimen or increase their fitness level. Upon registration, participants can then choose to support one of three global charities. As they clock in active minutes, they’re not only getting closer to their fitness goals but are also raising money for their chosen charities.

Citi employees with family and friends tour the famous murals of Bonifacio Global City on bamboo bicycles

For this year, a dozen Citi employees joined the BGC Art Tour; they visited famous wall murals around Bonifacio Global City on bamboo bicycles or Bambike conceptualized by Bryan Benitez McClelland

Bambike Revolution Cycles promotes their bicycles by offering a taste of Philippine history with a tour around Intramuros, and now at BGC.

“I wanted to highlight more contemporary Filipino culture. Here in the most modern city in the Philippines (BGC) surrounded with mural art, we are able to offer a whole new expression of Filipino culture,” shares Filipino-American McClelland.

The Bambike BGC Art Tour gives a unique experience because participants get to ride a handcrafted bamboo bicycle while seeing the art in the metropolis.

After a two-hour ride around BGC, participants ended their morning tired and sweaty but exhilarated to take part in the latest fitness challenge event that not only benefitted them and their chosen charities, but also gave them a dose of Filipino culture.
