Palace sees the need to explain to Filipinos why government wants to lower the age of criminal liability.
In a statement, Malacañang said, this plan is in President’s legislative agenda “to ensure that the Filipino youth would ensure criminal responsibility for their actions.”
The Duterte administration also says, the measure will enable government to reach out and subject more youth offenders to intervention programs.
“It will also protect them from being utilized by criminal elements as frontline perpetrators of criminal acts,” the statement added.
These remarks were made in reaction to the newest survey of Pulse Asia.
The study shows that 55 percent of Filipinos want to keep the age of criminal responsibility at fifteen (15).
