GLOBAL Cebu, led by Paul Mulders and Hikaru Minegishi, struck down Boeung Ket Angkor, 2-1, on Wednesday evening at the Rizal Memorial football field.
This allowed the Cebuanos to reach the ASEAN Zone semifinals of the Asian Football Confederation Cup at the close of their Group F campaign.
They finished their Group F stint on top of the standings with five wins and a loss, reaching the semis with Malaysia’s Johor Darul Ta’Zim.
Ceres-Negros also made it to the ASEAN semis following a 4-2 win over Hanoi on Wednesday in a Group G encounter over at the Panaad Park in Bacolod.
Mulders booted in the match’s first goal 12 minutes into the game, converting on Paolo Salenga’s cross.
His right-footed effort into the bottom right corner put the Filipino squad ahead at 1-0.
They sank their second goal in the 27th minute when Minegishi curled a left footed shot after Shu Sasaki and Darryl Roberts gave him support support at the penalty box.
After that, the Cambodians gave the Filipinos a scare when Sath Rosib pulled one back from four minutes after the second half.
With the result, Global Cebu will take on S-League’s Home United of Singapore in the two-leg ASEAN semifinal in two week’s time.
Ceres-Negros, which finished with a same 3-2-1 win-draw-loss card with Hanoi, will have Johor Darul Ta’Zim as their semis foe.
They took the early lead on two goals from Bienvenido Maranon in the 6th and 22nd minutes.
