‘More business for QC women’

Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista is determined to provide more economic opportunities to women in the city and encourage them to become entrepreneurs.

In a speech during the Quezon City Women Entrepreneur’s Forum at the Quezon City Performing Arts Theatre, the mayor underscored the need to teach women, especially homemakers, how to avail of livelihood opportunities from the city government.

“Creating more entrepreneurs is one of the key solutions to address the lack of employment opportunities in the city,” Bautista said.

Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte also shared the mayor’s insights on the importance of providing more home-based employment and entrepreneurial activities to the women in Quezon City.

“They should be given the capacity to earn, to put them on equal standing with the men,” Belmonte said.

The forum, organized by Councilor Irene Belmonte, was meant to encourage and inspire women in Quezon City to pursue entrepreneurship.

The councilor, who also chairs the QC Council’s Committee on Trade, Commerce and Industry, also invited representatives from key national and local government agencies to provide information on their programs and services.

Among the national government agencies which participated in the forum were the Department of Trade and Industry, Social Security System, PhilHealth, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority, Department of Labor and Employment, Department of Science and Technology, and the Bureau of Internal Revenue.

The forum also served as venue for a consultative session relative to the passage of a proposed ordinance principally authored by Councilor Belmonte on Women Entrepreneurship.
