Eighty-two percent of the people in Metro Manila feel safer because of the government’s war against drug.
This was according to National Capital Region Police Office chief Oscar Albayalde, who cited the latest Pulse Asia Research Inc. survey results.
The survey was conducted on Dec. 6-11, 2016, a few months after the NCRPO began its campaign against drug trafficking and illegal drug use in Metro Manila.
Albayalde said the NCRPO’s War Against Illegal Drugs was implemented on July 1, 2016 and its five months relentless implementation gained 82 percent approval rating from public based on the result of the Pulse Asia Research survey question: “Compared to last year, I feel that it is less dangerous now in our place because of the campaign against illegal drugs.”
Albayalde said he is inspired by the result of the survey and assured the public to continue the thrust of the NCRPO on crime prevention and suppression, war against illegal drugs and illegal gambling and Internal Cleansing Program.
“This result will serve as our driving force to continue our mission on eradicating illegal drugs and other illegal activities in the Metro. We will take this accomplishment as one of our basis and guide to further improve our performance, to address the security demands of the public, and to further pursue our transformation program,” he said.
Albayalde expressed his gratitude to the public and further encouraged them to continue their support and cooperation to all NCRPO undertakings.
He also acknowledged the significance of the information sharing that lead to the arrest and neutralization of illegal drugs personalities.
Albayalde also vowed that all information, reports and complaints from the public will be acted accordingly and promptly.
“The fulfillment of the service that we render to the public is the acceptance of the public of our services, as we have always emphasized that policing is not just our responsibility but the community as well. The response they provided in this survey reflects their concerns. We will innovate and do more until we get to 100 percent,” Albayalde added.
The NCRPO reported that crime incidents in Metro Manila such as robbery, car and motor thefts, rape and physical injury went down during the second semester of 2016.
Based on the record of the NCRPO-Investigation and Detection Management Division, the number of crimes against property declined to 30.55 percent from 301 to 209.
Robbery cases also decreased by 35.09 percent from 86 to 55 while theft incidents decreased by 24.25 percent from 177 to 134. Carnapping incidents also went down by 63.56 percent from 9 to 3 while theft involving motorcycles went down by 45.42 percent from 30 to 16 number of cases.
Crime against person such as rape reduced by 12.66 percent from 22 to 19 number of cases while physical injury was down by 11.29 percent from 98 to 87 cases.
Albayalde expressed belief that the relentless Oplan Tokhang and Double Barrel campaign being implemented by his office has greatly contributed to the reduction of street crimes.
“The positive feedback from the people is a proof that we are doing our job correctly, that will be our ultimate reward when the citizenry will be the one to say that they feel safer in their neighborhood and in the streets of Metro Manila,” Albayalde said.
