CLARK FREEPORT, Pampanga—Commercial flights affected by the Tagaytay radar upgrading and maintenance work will be accommodated at the international airport here to prevent the discomfort of their passengers.
Alexander Cauguiran, president and CEO of the Clark International Airport Corp., on Wednesday said they are more than willing to accommodate flights diverted here from the Ninoy Aquino International Airport during the maintenance and upgrading period of the Tagaytay radar from March 6 to 11.
Cauguiran said the agreement was finalized during a meeting with all airport managers of airlines operating at Naia, called the Airlines Council Manila, on Tuesday.
He assured airline managers that in case of flight diversions, Clark Airport can accommodate them, as it has ample parking lots even for bigger airplanes, apart from hotels, transportation facilities, emergency and technical services to serve passengers.
The meeting was called after the two operational radars NAIA depends on will be shut down during the upgrading and maintenance of period.
Hilarion Ritche Nacpil, Clark terminal manager, said the airport can accommodate at least 33 aircraft at daytime and 26 at night.
The upgrading of the Tagaytay radar includes the installation of a new technology called Communication Navigation Surveillance/Air Traffic Management, a system that ensures safer, more efficient and better air traffic flow.
