CARMONA—Mark Domingo played a waiting game with comebacking favorite Low Profile.
Low Profile, a five-year old stallion, raced for the first time in two months after suffering from an ailment at the end of a previous race, chasing down three leading bets in the last 400-meters to take the top honors in the 2016 PCSO Presidential Gold Cup Race recently at the San Lazaro Leisure Park race tracks.
The 30-year old Domingo first watched leading horse Skyway got pursued by Dewey Boulevard, Lakan and Hookshot for most of the 2,000-meter race.
Slowly, he and Low Profile moved their way up to the front from the outside, and was 4 lengths ahead of Skyway in the lead when they crossed the finish in 2 minutes and 7.4 seconds.
Skyway, with jockey AP Asuncion on top, was second, followed by Kanlaon, ridden by Val Dilema.
The win allowed Low Profile, owned by Ruben Dimacuha to make up for a fourth-place finish he had way back in October in the PCSO Anniversary Race.
“Nagkaproblema siya sa isang race. Naayos namin. Nag-adjust kami. Hindi namin masyado binigyan ng hard work sa practice,” said Domingo, an eight-year veteran.
Low Profile’s redemption from his loss to Kanlaon handed his owner and handlers the top purse of P3 million, while Skyway earned the second prize purse of P1 million. Kanlaon’s take was P500,000.
Trainer Conrado Vicente said Low Profile’s health suffered from the hot climate, which they experienced last October, with the stallion suffering from a nosebleed while being returned to the stable.
“Naayos na ito. Nu’ng hinahanda naming siya, maganda ang workout. Mabilis siya. Pero kailangan sumunod lang siya sa umpisa ng karera. Pero sa last 400, du’n ko nakita na mananalo siya sa takbo niya,” stated Vicente.
In other featured races that day, Sepfourteen of JA Guce took home the P1.5 million top prize in the Philracom Juvenile Championship Stakes Race.
Tarzana ruled the 2016 PCSO National Orthopedic Hospital Trophy Race Division, while Luneta Park claimed the Division III honors.
