SEASON 4 Finals MVP Boyet Bautista struck for seven triples to lead the defending champion Armed Forces of the Philippines Cavaliers past the Ombudsman Graft Busters, 103-85, Thursday in the UNTV Cup at the Pasig City Sports Center.
Bautista made 25 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists and was hailed as the Best Player of the Game.
The Cavaliers, who bounced back from two consecutive losses, advanced to the second round of the eliminations.
“For the second round, we will intensify our practices. We will double our efforts in our practices. We will return the championship caliber of the AFP to be competitive again,” said AFP Head Coach Sonny Manucat.
Mark Anthony Marcos and Ronnie Zagala led the Graft Busters with a combined 60 points.
Meanwhile, two-time champion Judiciary Magis also advanced to the second round, together with three-time runner-up PNP Responders.
The Judiciary Team grabbed second place in Group B with a 5-1record after beating the HOR solons in the first game with scores of 114-94.
On the other hand, the PNP Responders are in third place in Group B with 4 wins and 2 losses after defeating the GSIS Furies, 90-80.
Julius Criste led the Responders with 24 points, 2 rebounds and 1 steal.
