DSWD & NDRRMC make aerial survey of typhoon-hit Cagayan

Social Welfare Secretary Judy Taguiwalo and National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) Executive Director Ricardo Jalad conduct on aerial inspection of Cagayan on Friday morning.

Super typhoon ‘Lawin’ had made landfall in Peñablanca, Cagayan at 11 pm last Wednesday.

In a press briefing in Camp Aguinaldo, NDRRMC Spokesperson Romina Marasigan reported, a C-130 plane from Mactan, Cebu has flown to Cagayan to replenish the relief supplies for disaster victims. 

Some 10,606 families are still staying in 334 evacuation centers across Northern Luzon.

65 barangays are remain flooded although the level of water has begun to subside.

These affected communities are in Pangasinan, Pampanga and Isabela.

The San Roque Dam in Pangasinan-Benguet area and Magat Dam in Ifugao-Isabela area continue to release water at this time.

As a result, water level along Cagayan River continues to rise.

Meanwhile, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reports, 38 passengers are still stranded in San Vicente Port in Aparri, Cagayan due to huge waves at sea.

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) confirms the death of 7 persons in Cordillera due to typhoon ‘Lawin.’

It is still validating information that a total of 5 persons died in Ifugao, Ilocos Norte, Abra and Isabela.

DILG has yet to determine the actual number of persons missing.

Damage to agriculture in Cordillera has been placed at P 26 million, while at least 113 houses in the region were damaged.
